Our Rabbits Escaped

We fell behind on the Home Grown Food Summit posts because our rabbits escaped their hutch.

It seems the staples holding the wire bottom snapped off and the two critters slipped out. They ran amok in our container garden and ate everything. I mean, everything. Then the little fatties snuggled up underneath our house! It’s a good thing they love food and are okay with people. I used some alfalfa pellets to coax them out of hiding and snatched them up the moment I could. They spent the rest of the night in our bathroom while I figured out how to fix the hutch… Again.

We went to Home Depot and purchased our supplies for our new and improved garden bed, and some wood trim to place over the edges of the wire bottom. I drilled them in place while Alex cut the wood for our garden. The wire holds tight now and there are no openings. Thank goodness. The garden bed took an hour to build and I bruised my knuckles using the table saw, but overall all seems well. I went ahead and bought more soil for the garden and planted some new veggies and a butterfly bush.

Next, I gotta find my garlic and onions and plant those! Can’t give up, even for hungry bunnies. As always, be kind and tender to one another.

  1. Did they tell, “FREEEEEDOM!!!!” As they bolted? Snicker….and did you mumble,”catch the wabbit, catch the wabbit…” As you hunted for them?

    • Hahahaha, I said many colorful things while trying to catch those waskly wabbits! I’m pretty sure the buck cursed my family for generations to come as well. That’s okay. He got to eat a banana anyway because I like him.
